Reading and Writing All Sorts
“We suffer for the simple reason that suffering is biologically useful. It is nature’s preferred agent for inspiring change. We have evolved to always live with a certain degree of dissatisfaction and insecurity, because it’s the mildly dissatisfied and insecure creature that’s going to do the most work to innovate and survive.”
― Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life
Mark Manson is definitely a marmite kinda author – you’ll love him or hate him, as seen on Goodreads when trawling through the reviews! I haven’t read his stuff yet but when I see comments and excerpts about him and his books, I tend to put him on my To Be Read (TBR) pile. He makes you look at things differently – for example, we’re told to be positive, think forward, strive for happiness. Well, yes, most of the time but it’s about understanding you won’t be happy all the time; accept that sometimes you will fail at being positive and sometimes looking back is useful It’s all about perspective.
Which leads me onto reverse psychology. I’m a big fan of this but it’s taken me most of my fifty years to accept that life isn’t a self-help book, or motivating all the time. In fact, it’s only in the last year or so, that I’ve allowed myself to have an off-day, instead of mithering in my own head that life is for living, get up and do something, etc etc. Actually, no. I’m not feeling great I will therefore not do a lot. And you know what, it’s one of the hardest things to do. But it’s self-care and we all need recharging, not just our devices!
If I’m hungry, I’ll eat, not when the clock tells me to. If I can’t sleep, I don’t force it; I’ll read a bit instead or even get up. You get the picture – this is a good article to read if you are so inclined …
So it’s Friday and although in the modern world, this doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the working week anymore and unless I’m rostered on to work the weekend, I do still get that Crunchie Friday Feeling (I imagine some of you may have to Google that!). Have a read of THIS, a blog about Friday Quotes and fuck the weather today, it’s Friday. You can’t change it so live it 😉
