New Year Resolutions … rubbish!

Why put yourself under all that pressure?!

I believe the new year, new start mantra is psychologically empowering but I also believe a lot of people make a lot of money out of it, especially in the world of health – new fad diets, gym memberships, personal trainers etc and, if it works for you, then go for it.  If it gives you focus, fab!  But if it doesn’t, you are not a failure.  Start again tomorrow if you have to.  There are no rules. And always remember mental health and general well-being are as important as physical health.

A Chinese proverb goes – “Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up”.  If, like me, you have dodgy joints, a screaming menopausal body that doesn’t know if it’s coming or going and a head full of cotton wool (on a good day) then getting up maybe slow but I bloody well make sure I get up*.  I may ponder on the disappearance of my motivation, or wonder at how tired bones can actually be; I may not believe in resolutions anymore but time has proven to me that you can start anything at anytime you damn well want.

*there is a get-out clause here; once in a blue moon (rare as rocking-horse s*it basically) I have what is known as a ‘duvet day’.  There is no duvet involved usually, but I simply stay in PJ’s and I will not be reading anything academic, writing, blogging, researching or working. I will be watching films, reading for pleasure and am not ashamed of having a Nanna Nap, even though I’m not a nanna.

Re-evaluate your lifestyle, your job, your friends & family and anything else you’re not happy with; only you can make changes, only you can know what way is best for you.  You may make mistakes but that’s part of the journey, whatever that journey maybe.  And there are hundreds of far more inspirational quotes and blogs than this one but I just wanted to post something bog standard for readers as much as for myself.

Get out in Mother Nature, it really is the best remedy and it’s free.  What I’m trying to say in a long-winded way is, here’s to a healthy and rewarding 2019 to you 🙂
